You touch them every day, and turn them in your hand. They can be smooth metal, cold stone or hard plastic. They are door knobs and they can be the sexiest thing in your house.

What are the knobs and tubes used in knob and tube wiring made of, on a chemical level?
I know that they made of porcelain, but I don't know what porcelain is made of... It might depend on the brand, but I am looking for what is most generally used. (This is for a project for my ceramics engineering class.)
These are most likely made from an electrical grade porcelain, like steatite. Steatite is a Magnesium - Alumina - Silicate.
